The Project

Built from scratch. For the community.

As Executive President of the Schalmont Central Schools PTO, I designed and built the district's community website from scratch — wearing every hat as designer, developer, and client. With event info scattered across Facebook and paper flyers, and no unified digital presence across four schools, I built a purpose-built platform in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that could serve every family, at every school, in one place.

The site launched to immediate community response and became the go-to resource for the entire district — referenced at school board meetings, shared in teacher newsletters, and bookmarked by hundreds of families. It grew PTO social followership to 2,500+, directly supported over $60,000 in fundraising across two years, and gave a volunteer-run organization the kind of digital presence typically reserved for companies with full-time web teams.

"Today at Schalmont" live widget showing real-time weather for Schenectady, NY and today's school schedule pulled from Google Calendar feeds
Hero image slider with admin-facing upload and remove controls — empowering non-technical board members to manage photos without a CMS
Integrated Google Calendar embeds and iCal proxy for events across all four schools with color-coded school badges
Member directory with login/register flow and role-based access controls

Spirit shop, fundraiser pages, and yearbook ordering — each school-specific and kept up to date across the school year
Photo gallery organized by event, with dedicated pages for Casino Night, Trail of Treats, Glitz & Glam Dance, and more
Accessible, keyboard-navigable navigation with nested dropdown menus and a collapsible sidebar for mobile
Sponsor ad slot system with leaderboard and square placements for community business partners
Full responsive design — optimized for the reality that most parents check the site on their phone at pickup
